Spanish star Jorge Lorenzo will no doubt be looking to add to his recent success in Portugal after a run of very strong finishes at the Estoril Circuit. Lorenzo came second last year after winning convincingly in both 2009 and 2010, and often remembered for his ‘spaceman’ celebrations. He also completed his first ever grand prix win at the circuit in 2008.
Going into the race weekend with just a four point lead over Australian Casey Stoner, he is keen to capitalise on his record and further improve his championship lead:
“We go to Estoril now, a track which has seen very good results for me, I have had some great victories here, and really enjoy the racing. I think we can be very strong in the race and as in Jerez I think the right tyres will be very important”.
Having been at Estoril for both his victories I have seen first hand how Lorenzo’s riding style and Yamaha seem to work particularly well, Stoner’s arm pump may well make a comeback as he appears to have not yet found a solution, and the weather is once again predicted to be wet for race weekend.
Lorenzo has so far clocked up a win in the opening round in Qatar and a second place in Jerez, just last weekend.
The world championship resumes this on Friday when practice commences in Portugal.
