The list also reveals that the Paul Bird Motorsports team will feature, as long rumoured, Yonny Hernandez on James Ellison’s old Aprillia ART seat but after much speculation he will be joined by Michael Laverty on a PBM machine. Moto3: Girl Racers? Ana Carrasco set to be first female Moto3 rider at Laglisse

Ana Carrasco looks certain to become Moto3’s first female participant after talking of her deal with the JHK T-shirt Laglisse outfit for 2013.

The 15 year old currently rides for the team in the CEV Buckler Moto3 category of the Spanish championship on a Honda and ahead of the final round is 17th in the standings with 20 points and is one of three girls to compete, alongside Montserrat Costa and Repsol sponsored Maria Herrera.

The Laglisse team used a FTR Honda for the majority of the 2012 season but are expected to switch to KTM for 2013, a move mentioned by Carrassco on her Twitter feed, where her status confirms her promotion to the junior class:

“Confirmed on the IRTA list for Moto3 World Championship 2013 KTM will run with the team Laglisse.”

The teams other riders are yet to be confirmed but they are looking to change their entire line up – Vaquez has already announced his move to Mahindra – and are rumoured in the Spanish press to be the team most interested in paying the fee to release Maverick Vinales from his Blusens Avintia contract.

Carrassco will not run with her usual number 32 as that is currently used by Isaac Vinales, who remains in Moto3 after a move to the CBC Corse team where he is joined by newcomer Matteo Farrari, and will instead use 22 – the old number of team director and former 125cc race winner Pablo Nieto.

My favourite helmet design of 2012

I have always been a big fan of the way motorcycle riders can show a little of their personality through the bits of their kit they have the ability to personalise and the most obvious example of this is usually their helmets.

Fastest in testing in a Kalex top three and championship runner up Pol Espargaro ran with a AGV helmet that, especially after THAT crash with Marc Marquez, summed up his season perfectly:

A neat summary of Espargaro’s season – on a helmet!

Romano Fenati back with Team Italia for 2013

After narrowly missing out on the accolade of ‘rookie of the year’ to Alex Rins after a close battle between the two this season, Italian teenager Romano Fenati can celebrate a secure future instead with the news he is confirmed to ride for his current team Team Italia FMI for the 2013 season.

The Italian teenager impressed in his rookie year with a string of strong results, including a race win at a wet Jerez and three further podium finishes.

Team Italia have made it their goal to nurture new Italian riders as there were few coming through the system after Andrea Iannone and the late Marco Simoncelli and have revealed that Fenati will have a new team mate next season in the shape of 15 year old Francesco Bagnaia, who will be sixteen during the winter break so able to race from the start of the season unlike new Marc VDS Moto3 signing Livio Loi or Eric Granado in this year’s Moto2 championship.

Bagnaia currently race in the CIV Moto3 Spanish championship and is third before the final round for the Monlau Competicion squad where he was the partner to championship winner Alex Marquez.

Moto3: Valencia wild card Juan Fransisco Guevara earns full 2013 ride with CIP

Coming to Moto3 in 2013 to give Maverick Vinales a challenge for best name in the paddock if nothing else is the Spanish teenager Juan Fransisco Guevara.

The 17 year old impressed with a 12th place in his second wild card grand prix race at the Ricardo Tormo circuit and the French CIP team (Technomag no longer appear to be involved) have snapped him up for a full time ride alongside Alan Techer who has renewed his contract with the outfit after finishing 22nd in the final standings.

Guevara still has unfinished racing business this year as he is due to compete in the seventh and final round of the Moto3 CEV Spanish championship. He is due to test his new Moto3 machine next week.

Valentino Rossi back on a Yamaha in the wet

It’s an image many had been looking forward to, Valentino Rossi back on a Yamaha!

The multiple world champion has not yet had a chance to show the world the return to form his fans around the globe had been waiting and hoping for – the image (from http://www.MotoGP.com, who have detailed coverage of the tests) shows Rossi during his run in the wet in Valencia, after which the Yamaha team elected to move on to Aragon – where the rain followed them.

‘The Doctor’ is yet to reveal much on his time at Ducati as he is not allowed to do so by contract – MotoGP contracts run until the end of the year, not season, and it is a part of the conditions involved in being allowed to test for Yamaha alongside Jorge Lorenzo who’s highlight at the Valencia test was being pictured eating an apple on the pit wall, followed by a crash in the wet at Aragon.
