It seems the most common road to injury in bike sport racing often seems to occur away from the race action while the riders are using motocross to keep fit between races. The most recent casualty is Mapfre Aspar’s Moto3 rider Jonas Folger.
The German title hopeful, currently fourth in the championship standings, went for a training ride in Mantova, Italy after the Mugello race weekend with his fellow countryman Marcel Schrotter, who currently rides in Moto2.
Speaking of the fracture he sustained last Wednesday Folger told the MotoGP.com website:
“With the bad luck I had last Wednesday, I had a silly fall and hurt myself.” He continued: “It appears as though I have cracked a bone in my right wrist, so I’m resting it in order to recover as soon as possible. I hurts a little, but it is getting better every day.”
Folger will be assessed on Friday to see if he is fit enough to compete in the Catalunya Grand Prix this weekend.
