Image of the GP, Laguna Seca : Being beaten at your own game! (Rossi vs Marquez)

Ahhh, so the student becomes the master!

After once again admitting to studying Rossi videos in preparation for a race, Laguna Seca saw Marc Marquez do what he said he thought “impossible” after watching the Stoner/Rossi footage and put a pass on the multiple world champion Italian through the gravel, barely getting his tyres dirty in the process.

The Yamaha rider held off Bautista for the final podium spot while Marquez went on to push his factory Honda past Stefan Bradl’s LCR, becoming the first rookie to win at the Californian circuit. Bradl also scored his first podium, and the first for a German rider in the MotoGP era.

Rossi then congratulated the Spanish 20 year old in Parc Ferme with a slightly threatening looking hug.

Rossi, perhaps you should consider smashing his t.v. and hiding his laptop, those videos are too helpful!

Finally to add a little perspective, an excellent comparison picture shared on Twitter by user @carlovanzini  – Rossi and Stoner at the corkscrew in 2008 and Marquez on Rossi today:

compare vr v mm v stonerMarquez may have been a little harsh on himself when he added :”I passed Rossi on the corkscrew. It was less spectacular than his move on Stoner but the intention was there”.

    1. Thanks for the reblog! Very gutsy and maybe a little planned, there’s also another shot of him practicing angling his scooter through the sand on arrival at Laguna to check out the possibilities!

Love him or hate him Marquez is certainly livening things up!
