MotoGP: Marquez remains on top for day two and Iannone’s follow friendly helmet

Day two in Sepang for the MotoGP riders saw Marc Marquez go sub two minutes in Malaysia, the first rider to do so.

The top three times of the day were all set by Honda riders with the Spaniards factory team-mate second and LCR rider Stefan Bradl improving to third.

Valentino Rossi completed another solid day of testing with the fourth fastest time, just ahead of the rider of the test for me so far, Aleix Espargaro – who was the fifth best on day two, easily the best of the Open Class entries and one place faster than Rossi’s Yamaha colleague Jorge Lorenzo. Impressive.

Andrea Iannone saw off the factory Ducati riders once again with his Pramac machine, so to celebrate here’s his ‘follow me’ social media inspired helmet as the image for todays blog, Day two times listed below the picture:

Still Crazy… The self styled ‘Maniac Joe’ wants you to follow him – just like Crutchlow and Dovizioso at the moment!

  1. hey Lisa

are we seeing there beginning of Honda dominance? if we are this early in the test cycle what does that mean for the season? i would like to see marques win another championship. i like when an competitor can repeat. however after that i prefer a change. that being said i don’t want it to be a walkover by Honda and the young spaniard.

    1. It’s early days yet and he’s not ahead by too much.
Testing is odd as it is a reference point but not the end of the world if your down the list.
If you have a part to work on your too busy to be going fast! Same if you are a rookie and especially if not joining on the top goods, lots to be done for rider and team.

Lorenzo so low is a little worrying, he’s said he has issues he is not comfortable with on the bike, Ducati are still all at sea too. Feel sad for Hayden as well, he’s having a real ‘out of the frying pan’ style disaster while Aleix Espargaro, on a bike he had a shot a signing for, is talking podiums on his Open Class inferior machinery.

I agree with you it will be a real test of character if Marquez can pull off another championship win, no Vettel style domination here thanks!

I’ll give the final word on Marquez to former American MotoGP rider Ben Spies, he has it spot on (quote via Twitter):

@marcmarquez93 yo it’s only the second day of school kid! Slow down or your gonna make it boring! #nextlevel
