Moto3 saw Francesco Bagnaia take his first world championship win in a tight Dutch Grand Prix at Assen only decided in the drag to the line as his Aspar machine pulled ahead of his rivals after taking the cleanest line on the last lap.

It was also a momentous day for his Mahindra team, as it registered a first win for the Indian manufacturer since entering championship action.

More from me on Assen qualifying at Paddock Chatter…

The Assen TT circuit is iconic and has broken with the tradition of not racing on a Sunday for the first time, meaning Saturday is qualifying time. The Dutch weather was as unpredictable as ever with both Moto3 and Moto2 caught in showers despite being at opposite ends of the action.

Enea Bastianini found himself at the top of the timesheets when it mattered most to secure pole before the rain arrived for the first time during qualifying ahead of the Moto3 Dutch GP at the historic TT Assen circuit.

Moto3 and Moto2 round up – Catalunya – Navarro and Zarco win on a day dedicated to Salom.

More from my @PaddockChatter short report on the Moto3 and Moto2 races, today was more than racing it was a day dedicated to Luis Salom.

The show must go on, and with the permission of the Salom family, that’s exactly what happened and there was a race day to fulfill in Barcelona.

With subdued celebrations and a lot of emotional, personal dedications around the paddock it was Jorge Navarro and Johann Zarco who coped best with the track changes.

Here’s a brief run down of how the action unfolded in both classes.

Moto3 and Moto2 round up: For Luis- Binder and Zarco take poles on difficult day.

My qualifying round-up for the very sombre #CatalanGP over at @PaddockChatter , with Luis Salom still very much in mind #Mexicano39 #RIP #DEP

Qualifying for the Moto3 and Moto2 races at the Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona was a subdued and emotional affair following the passing of Moto2 Rider Luis Salom in practice on Friday.

With the paddock in shock and a sad cloud over the track – many of the riders from all the classes had called Luis a friend, been his team-mate or worked with him – with the permission of his family and some alterations to the track it was decided the race weekend should continue in his honour.

Here’s how qualifying went for the support classes, all of whom sported some kind of ‘Salom39’ or ‘Mexicano’ reference in memory of their colleague and friend.
