MotoGP: Valentino Rossi’s helmet for the Sepang 2014 test

MotoGP’s winter break is finally over (as is mine, with plenty of great blog reading for me to catch up on!) and to celebrate here is a picture of Rossi’s helmet for the Sepeng test as seen on Twitter and originally shared by MotoGP.com, hopefully for all his fans it will be the only view his rivals get of his face on track this season!

Rossi’s helmet will look best if you are behind it! (So far that’s everyone EXCEPT Marquez!)

Early indications from day 1 give the impression that a competitive season between Marquez/Rossi/Lorenzo and Pedrosa could be on the cards with Aleix Espargaro giving a star turn once again – impressing in the Open class, as he did as a CRT rider. Ducati still seem to have work to do…

MotoGP: Nicky Hayden shows us his Laguna Seca helmet for 2013!

Though he may be on his way out at Ducati Nicky Hayden is still currently the biggest American draw to the MotoGP championship and he still loves to celebrate  his ‘home’ race at Laguna Seca (where he has won twice – 2005 & 2006) with a fancy new lid.

The Kentucky Kid is also adept at keeping his fans updated using social media so shared his new helmet image on his Twitter account @NickyHayden:

The theme is set up by camouflage 69 decals for the Ducati and continues in to the army-themed helmet design. Hayden has once again gone for an open-face style, similar to on the ‘Easy Rider/ Easy Hayden’ helmet he debuted last year. The back  has a little army hayden character with ‘Born To Ride’ written on his helmet, flowers coming from his gun, a peace logo on top of the lis and bullets around the edge.

You could say working at Ducati’s been as epic as ‘war and peace’! (probably mainly war – rider vs bike, mostly!)

MotoGP: Nicky Hayden’s Replica ‘Easy Rider’ helmet to be available for sale

Nicky Hayden’s ‘Easy Rider’ helmet : available soon!

Remember American MotoGP  star Nicky Hayden’s amazing art idea for the Arai helmet used in the USA rounds of the championship at Laguna Seca and Indianapolis?

I covered it here at the time in what proved to be a very popular post, here’s a recap:

It shows the helmet from the amazingly clever open side angle and the back artwork too.

Arai have now announced that as the helmet proved so popular there will be a limited edition replica available at the hefty price tag of £749.99 but only 100 will be available in the UK.

The release date is February 2013, although you can pre-order now from your local Arai DNA centre, you can find your local dealer worldwide via this link:

Here’s what Arai have to say about the RX-7 GP “Easy Rider” collaboration:

“The new RX-7 GP Nicky Hayden “Easy Rider” is something completely different! Peter Fonda used his famous “Stars and Stripes” open face helmet on his “Captain America” Harley. More than 40 years later designers Starline transferred this theme on the RX-7 GP into the 21-century.
The visual gag is of course that the shape of an open face helmet is suggested, complete with an image of an unshaven chin sticking out under the visor!”

Personally I think it’s one of the coolest helmet ideas of all time, up there with some of Rossi’s best, like the screaming face or Misano donkey.
